Player of the Game
RB Kerryon Johnson
Kerryon Johnson is putting together an argument to be the best running back in the SEC. He has all of the tools and he uses them very well. He averaged 7.3 yards a carry against a subpar Ole Miss defense. Johnson rushed 28 times, which was more than enough, for 204 yards. He added 3 touchdowns on the day, which brings him to 12 total on the year, one more than he rushed for in all of 2016.
Game Recap and Analysis
Ole Miss’s offense continues to struggle. They put up 3 points in the first half and looked out matched doing it. After half time, the team came out with some energy, but to be honest it looked like the Auburn team had checked out at half time. The starters were still in, but they weren’t playing hard. The stats don’t tell the whole story as Shea Patterson threw for 346 and 2 touchdowns. That is a good stat line, but watching the game you wouldn’t be as impressed. AJ Brown led the team in yards with 109 and DK Metcalf had the only 2 touchdown grabs on the day. The defense was porous during the first half. Auburn moved the ball at will and it was difficult to watch. They came out after half time and played better, but as I said before, it was too little too late. Josiah Coatney led the team in tackles with 8, and Marquis Haynes followed with 7 tackles and his first full sack of the year. Gary Wunderlich continues to struggle as he was 1/2 on the day kicking.
