Best Offensive Performance

Madison Stokes continued his great start to the season against Wright State this weekend. The Junior out of AC Flora High in Columbia contributed 4 hits including a HR and two doubles. Stokes is a very interesting part of this lineup because he can provide strength in the top of the lineup and the middle of the lineup. Other notable performances from this weekend include Jacob Olson and Hunter Taylor. Olson provided a bases clearing double on Saturday, while Taylor had three hits including two doubles in the 10-5 victory.

Best Pitching Performance

Best pitching performance of this weekend is a tie. Wil Crowe and Clarke Schmidt both pitched fantastic against a good Wright State lineup. On Friday night, Schmidt threw 6.1 innings and gave up no earned runs while striking out 11. Schmidt earned a no-decision for his efforts because of poor South Carolina defense. Wil Crowe simply dominated on Saturday throwing 6.1 innings as well, with 9 strikeouts on just 1 earned run. On a day with the wind whipping straight into right field, Crowe was able to strike batters out and keep the ball on the ground. Another very impressive weekend by the pitching staff.

What’s Next for South Carolina

South Carolina will welcome Appalachian State into Founders Park on Tuesday at 4 PM. Appalachian State comes in with a 4-3 record. Freshman Calev Grubbs from local White Knoll High School leads Appalachian State in hitting with a .346 average.

What’s Next for Wright State

Wright State will continue it’s journey through the Carolinas to play Gardner Webb on Tuesday. Gardner Webb sits at 2-6 after getting swept by Appalachian State.
