Houston enjoyed a breakout 13-1 season last year, and much of the Cougars’ success came as a result of the play of quarterback Greg Ward Jr. Ward is a true dual threat, as his 1,108 rushing yards and 2,828 passing yards both ranked among the top five in the American Conference. Ward accounted for 38 touchdowns and led Houston to top ten finishes nationally in both total and scoring offense. As one of only two quarterbacks to rush for over 1,000 yards while throwing for 2,000 (along with Heisman favorite Deshaun Watson), Ward accounted for over half of the Cougars’ offensive production last season, and his performance will be essential Houston is going to make a run into the College Football Playoff in 2016.
