Friday the 13th is a day for omens, bad luck, misfortune, and day-long movie marathons starring an undead homicidal hockey mask-wearing maniac.

Ah, Jason—will you ever learn?

This time around, Friday the 13th means MMA from Bellator.

Note: Initially, Combate Americas had been scheduled to take place on Friday in Tucson, AZ and every Friday throughout the rest of the month, but the promotion announced Monday that all March shows were being postponed due to concerns surrounding COVID-19 (coronavirus.)

Bellator 241 (a card exclusive to DAZN inside the United States) goes down this Friday night with 16 MMA fights from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.

Live coverage of Bellator 241 begins at 7:30 p.m. EDT, 4:30 p.m. PDT on DAZN and the Bellator MMA YouTube channel before moving exclusively to DAZN at 10 p.m. EDT, 7 p.m. PDT.

Highlighting this week’s show is a Featherweight Grand Prix doubleheader of the remaining fights in the quarterfinal phase of the tournament.

Seems fitting that the Bellator Featherweight Grand Prix tournament ends its quarterfinals just days before the biggest tournament of the year.

[I’ll leave you to figure out that last part. The brackets surrounding this text are a big clue.]

Anyway, getting back to combat sports, the co-main of Bellator 241 is the quarterfinal fight between Daniel Weichel (40-11) and Emmanuel Sanchez (19-4), while Friday night’s main event sees incumbent champion Patricio Pitbull [a.k.a., Patricio Freire] (30-4) battle Pedro Carvalho (11-3).

Both of these fights will be a maximum of five rounds at five minutes per round.

Fights in this Grand Prix involving Patricio Pitbull are also championship fights for Freire’s Featherweight title.

Should Patricio Pitbull be eliminated at any stage of the tournament, he will also lose his belt and the tournament champion will also become the new Featherweight champion.

Co-main event: Daniel Weichel vs. Emmanuel Sanchez:

Contender Comparison:

Heading into the co-main event, Daniel Weichel is the taller contestant at 5-foot-10, one inch taller than Emmanuel Sanchez’s 5-foot-9 frame.

How they got here:

Daniel Weichel eliminated Saul Rogers by unanimous decision in the round of 16 on Sept. 28. He’s posted a record of 3-2 in his last five fights.

In the other corner, Emmanuel Sanchez stopped Ty-wan Claxton (second-round submission- rear-naked choke) in his round of 16 fight on Sept. 7.

He’s gone 4-1 in his last five fights.

The Tale of the Tape:

Tapology shows that Emmanuel Sanchez owns a five-inch reach advantage over his opponent, Daniel Weichel (76 inches to 71 inches) heading into this fight.

Prediction: Emmanuel Sanchez by first-round knockout.

Main Event: Bellator Featherweight Championship: Patricio Pitbull vs. Pedro Carvalho:

Contender Comparison:

Heading into the Mar. 13 headliner, challenger Pedro Carvalho is the taller fighter, standing at 5-foot-11, six inches taller than champion Patricio Pitbull at 5-foot-5.

How they got here:

Both fighters have posted perfect 5-0 records in their last five fights.

Pitbull eliminated Juan Archuleta in the opening round of the Grand Prix via unanimous decision on Sept. 28 in the main event of Bellator 228.

In the other corner, Carvalho eliminated Sam Sicilla by second-round submission (face crank) in Bellator 226 on Sept. 7.

This matchup was chosen by Pitbull during a quarterfinal selection show on Sept. 28.

As champion, he had an option of accepting a fight with Adam Borics or choosing any one of the six other remaining quarterfinalists as his adversary—opting to fight Carvalho in March.

Borics instead fought Darrion Caldwell on Jan. 25—losing by first-round submission (rear-naked choke).

The Tale of the Tape:

Tapology shows that Pedro Carvalho has a 4.5-inch reach advantage (70 inches to 65.5 inches) over Patricio Pitbull heading into this contest.

Prediction: Patricio Pitbull by unanimous decision.
