On a brand new episode of BetOnline All Access, the guys took a closer look at Thursday’s NFL Draft. Drew Butler and Aaron Murray each gave their picks for some of the top prospects in the First Round.
Drew Butler’s Pick: Mac Jones Over 3.5 Picks (+170)
Butler explains that San Francisco trading up to #3 to draft Mac Jones makes little sense for the 49ers.
He is right here. The 49ers moved to three knowing that Trevor Lawrence and Zack Wilson would be off the board. With Lawrence and Wilson off the board, 3 Quarterbacks remain. San Fransisco will have their choice of Mac Jones, Justin Fields and Trey Lance.
As inch within hours of the NFL Draft, it seems like the 49ers have narrowed their decision down to Jones and Lance. With rumblings of the Atlanta Falcons being enamored with Trey Lance, the 49ers decision to move up to three becomes crystal clear.
The San Fransisco 49ers will draft Trey Lance. All the stars align. Whether it be the decision to leap frog Atlanta, or the decision to not move Jimmy Garopollo signaling a rookie redshirt year possibility.
So where does that leave Mac Jones? The 49ers seem to be the only team drafting a Quarterback high that preferred Jones over Fields. Eliminating quite a few teams from the Mac Jones sweepstakes.
The intriguing range to start watching Jones is picks 10-15. After Carolina and Denver draft at 8 and 9, the next Quarterback team on the board is New England at 15. Does Jones drop all the way to New England at 15 or does a team trade up to snag him.
The draft starts when the 49ers get on the clock.
Drew Butler Pick: Patriots to Draft a QB in Round 1 (+115)
Once again we’re in agreement with Drew here. As stated above I expect the 49ers to draft Trey Lance with the 3rd overall pick. Leaving Justin Fields and Mac Jones on the board. I think one of these two guys drops on Thursday Night.
Where I disagree with Drew and a lot of people to be quite honest is in relation to the Patriots trading up for a Quarterback.
Bill Belichick will not and is not trading up for a Quarterback. The guy just doesn’t value the position. This is the same guy who drove the Greatest of All Time out of time with a lack of appreciation.
Belichick loves to find value in these drafts. There is nothing move valuable than one of the Quarterbacks dropping to 15. That is the only way he drafts one of these guys. I think at least one drops to 15, and Bill will not pass it up.
