The Cowboys needed this win in the worst way and they got it done against the defending Super Bowl champions. What did we learn from this one?
Losing this game would have effectively removed Dallas from the hunt for the NFC East crown, barring any ensuing craziness. The team, thankfully, came to play knowing full well that their season was on the line and were able to pull off the much needed victory to improve to 4-5 here in Week 10.
Maybe losing Sean Lee won’t hurt as bad this time.
Any Cowboys’ fan knows that in recent years, losing Sean Lee to yet another injury was disaster for this defensive front. It was almost as if they couldn’t function without him. However, that seems to have changed this season as Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch have filled that hole in the linebacker corps with consistency and strength that the team hasn’t had in a long time.
In this one, it was the rookie Vander Esch that made the biggest impact in the game. With one interception and a big time stop to shut down the Eagles attempt at tying the game, it isn’t even a hard sell to call him the Player of the Game, at least on the defensive side of the ball. Congratulations rook, you are proving every single doubter wrong one play at a time.
Dak Prescott & Zeke Elliott have a game to remember.
Dak Prescott has struggled this season, no one is questioning that. However he earns a game sticker for this one as he finished 26-of-36 for 270 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a score as well. This game showed the world that Dak Prescott still has the ability to be the player that he was in his rookie year. We finally saw him make the plays with his legs that used to help his team so much and make much better decisions with the ball than in recent weeks.
Now, we move on to Zeke Elliott– the offensive star of the game by far. His highlights can be seen below.
Zeke, while still a strong running back, has not been as dominant as in previous seasons. This game however, was a big time change from that. He finished with two touchdowns, both coming at crucial points within the game. If Elliott can keep this up for the remainder of the season, the sky is the limit for this team.
As Zeke has said a few times the season, the Cowboys defense is playing too well for the offense to not back them up.
