The Atlanta Falcons announced the signing of veteran defensive lineman Cliff Matthews to fill the void left by the injured Derrick Shelby after tearing his achilles tendon last Sunday against the Seahawks.
Matthews (27) was drafted by the Falcons in 2011 as a 7th-round pick out of South Carolina. He spent his first three seasons in the NFL with Atlanta, providing a big body up front but not much in terms of production. After a short stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Matthews has been welcomed back to his original team with open arms.
Safety Dashon Goldson was released to make room for Matthew’s return.
