We are officially through week one of the new NFL season and there are a lot of former South Carolina players making impacts for their teams.
After going undrafted in the 2018 NFL draft, Skai Moore picked up a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts this off-season and worked his way into a starting role on Sunday in their first game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He accounted for just two tackles in the game.
Oakland Raiders tight end, Jared Cook, had a historic night against the LA Rams. He hauled in nine passes for 180 yards on 12 targets. That is the highest mark in Raider franchise history for a tight end.
Brandon Shell got the start at right tackle for the New York Jets and really impressed with his performance. In a new blocking scheme, he was a force in run-blocking and helped open up some holes in the run game for the Jets. He finished with a grade of 74.8 according to Pro Football Focus — which was third highest of the starting offensive lineman for New York.
Super Bowl winning wide receiver, Alshon Jeffery, did not play in week one and reportedly will not see any game action until about week four or five. He is still nursing a shoulder injury and there are a few more doctor visits in the works before he will suit up for Philly.
Hayden Hurst, the first round tight end in the 2018 draft, did not see any action due to suffering a stress fracture in his foot in the preseason. The report that came out back on August 24 said that he would be out for about three to four weeks.
AJ Cann, right guard for the Jacksonville Jaguars, got the start in a win against the New York Giants. He received a lot of praise coming out of the preseason as one of the most improved incumbent players on the Jags roster.
Wide receiver, Bruce Ellington has developed a rapport with Houston Texans sophomore quarterback Deshaun Watson throughout the preseason. That leaked over into the game one against the Patriots where Ellington caught four passes for 37 yards and one touchdown.
For the Patriots, former Gamecock DB Stephon Gilmore led the team in tackles against Houston, accounting for eight tackles and two pass deflections.
Jerell Adams, former Gamecocks tight end, did not make final 53-man roster for the New York Giants and was cut on September 2.
The Carolina Panthers acquired offensive lineman, Corey Robinson, from the Detroit Lions back on September 1 to supplement a depleted offensive line. He did not see any action in their game against the Cowboys.
Isaiah Johnson, reserve defensive back and special teams guy for the Buccaneers, did not see any playing time in their week one win over the Saints.
