Giaccherini Earned Himself A Career-Rejuvenating Transfer

Emmanuele Giaccherini's performances in France earned himself a morale-boosting transfer to Serie A runner-up Napoli.

Graziano Pelle isn’t the only Italian player who earned a move away this summer following an impressive Euro Cup performance. According to Furio Valcareggi, Giaccherini’s agent, a deal between Serie A runner-up Napoli and the Italian midfielder has been finalized.

Prior to his move to Sunderland, Emmanuele Giaccherini played for Conte during his reign at Juventus from 2011 to 2013. As his playing time progressively diminished, Giaccherini joined Sunderland who sent him out on loan this past season to Bologna.

Sunderland’s decision to loan the winger to a bottom-of-the-table Italian side transmitted the sense that Emmanuele Giaccherini’s career was coming to a close. Though, Giaccherini’s consistent and impressive performances throughout this summer’s Euro Cup caught the attention of Juventus rivals, Torino.

In fact, an agreement was in place between Giaccherini and Torino until Napoli made an offer he couldn’t refuse. What’s the one thing Napoli can assure this coming season that Torino can not? Champions League football.

After receiving the Partenopei’s attractive offer, Giaccherini’s agent told Radio CRC he had immediately visited Torino’s training ground to settle the situation with club president Urbano Cairo. Valcareggi stated, “Cairo is a great person, but he must understand that these things happen.”

Reports say Giaccherini will earn 1.5 million Euros per season. Regardless of his age, the new Napoli man has proven to be the same versatile box-to-box midfielder he was during his first spell in Italy.
