GLORY Kickboxing is back this weekend with a doubleheader of action on American soil. Friday and Saturday nights, the kickboxing promotion heads to Chicago’s Wintrust Arena for GLORY 71 and 72.
Both cards are highlighted by championship fights in their respective main events. We’ll talk more about Saturday night’s GLORY 72 later on in the week. Today, our focus is on Friday night’s GLORY 71 card.
As usual, GLORY 71 will be played out in three segments, beginning with two preliminary fights on Friday at 7 p.m. EST, 4 p.m. PST live on the GLORY Kickboxing YouTube channel. Following the undercard fights, the action shifts to UFC Fight Pass for the rest of the evening, beginning at 8 p.m. EST, 5 p.m. PST with five contests in the Superfight Series.
Finally, the evening’s action will culminate at 10 p.m. EST, 7 p.m. PST on Fight Pass with a four-fight main card, highlighted by a Women’s Super Bantamweight championship bout. Incumbent champion Anissa Meksen (99-4, 8-1 in GLORY) will put her title on the line against No. 1 contender Tiffany van Soest (20-4-1, 6-2 in GLORY).
As with all championship fights in GLORY Kickboxing, this fight will be a maximum of five rounds at three minutes per round.
The previous meeting
This main event is a rematch of a fight between Meksen and van Soest that occurred during the co-main event of GLORY 64 last March in Strasbourg, France. That night, Meksen defeated van Soest by split decision after five rounds.
Heading into Friday’s main event, champion Meksen is the taller contestant, standing 5-foot-6, two inches taller than challenger van Soest at 5-foot-4.
Note: Reach information for the fighters in this title fight was not available online.
Meksen has posted a record of 4-1 in her last five GLORY Kickboxing contests and enters this main event on a three-fight winning streak. Most recently, she scored a first-round TKO due to a doctor’s stoppage against Sofia Olofsson in GLORY 66 on June 22 on UFC Fight Pass.
In the other corner, challenger van Soest has gone 3-2 in her last five fights, winning last time out by unanimous decision against Jady Menezes during the Superfight Series portion of GLORY 68 in Miami on Sept. 28 on UFC Fight Pass.
Prediction: Anissa Meksen by first-round knockout.
