iKON Fighting Federation premieres this Thursday:

After Roy Jones Jr. Boxing closes out its card with the main event of the evening between Michael Williams Jr. (12-0, eight knockouts) and Thomas Miller (6-3, three knockouts) in an eight-round contest in the Super-Lightweight division, don’t call it a night.

The Biloxi Civic Center in Biloxi, MS will also play host to the first MMA show from Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions’ sister organization, upstart iKON Fighting Federation, iKON MMA 1.

Like Roy Jones Jr. Boxing, iKON Fighting Federation is overseen by Keith Veltre, with Island Fights Chief Executive Officer, Dean Toole, who negotiated Island Fights’ streaming media deal with UFC Fight Pass a few years ago, serving as the promotion’s matchmaker.

RJJ Promotions adding MMA to our portfolio!!! Newest MMA promotion iKON Fighting Federation To Launch Sept. 24 in Mississippi Streaming Live and Exclusively on UFC FIGHT PASS® LAS VEGAS (August 6, 2020) – Veteran combat sports promoter Keith Veltre has announced the debut of MMA’s newest promotional company, iKON Fighting Federation (iKON), September 24 at Biloxi Civic Center in Biloxi, Mississippi. All iKON events, held in association with Roy Jones, Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions, will be streamed live on UFC FIGHT PASS®, the world’s leading digital subscription service for combat sports. Veltre, who also announced the hiring of Dean Toole as iKON’s matchmaker, is the CEO and co-founder of RJJ Boxing Promotions and Kinektic submission grappling, both streaming events exclusively on UFC FIGHT PASS. “I have always lived by the motto, when businesses are downsizing during tough times, I either acquire or expand,” Veltre said. “I take advantage of times like this to rollout new adventures and MMA has always been in my game plan. I have always attached myself to a great team and bringing in Dean Toole as lead matchmaker was a no brainer, and I promise Ikon will deliver fireworks. I am thankful to have a great broadcast partner, UFC FIGHT PASS, and we’re excited to launch our first Ikon event with UFC FIGHT PASS on September 24th.” Toole added, “Being the founder and CEO of Island Fights, on UFC FIGHT PASS, it sometimes gets overlooked that I’m also the matchmaker for all of our professional events. I couldn’t be happier for this opportunity to continue doing what I’m best at and matchmake fights for iKON Fighting Federation. “I had the privilege of being hired by Keith Veltre and UFC FIGHT PASS in December for the Quinet Ultra event and I think they liked working with me and my staff. I hope we made a good impression. I’m very excited to get started and do what we do best and that’s get these athletes to UFC.” Full details and matchups will soon be announced. #mma #ufc #fights #rjjboxing #lasvegas #vegas #ikonmma

The voices of iKON:

Christopher Rothstein, who serves as the Island Fights ring announcer and post-fight interviewer, will serve in the same capacity as ring announcer for the upstart promotion.

Moreover, TJ DeSantis, who has called events for such promotions as Island Fights and women’s MMA promotion INVICTA Fighting Championships, will work in the selfsame capacity for iKON when it begins on Thursday.

The Main Event:

iKON Fighting Federation’s maiden voyage (10 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. PT) Thursday night on UFC Fight Pass features seven MMA fights, highlighted by a Lightweight main event between Khasan Askhabov (20-2) and Cliff Wright (12-10).

Contender Comparison:

Heading into the main event of the evening this Thursday night, Cliff Wright is the taller man at 5-foot-11, compared to the 5-foot-9 frame of Khasan Askhabov.

How they got here:

Askhabov has gone 4-1 in his last five MMA appearances, the only loss in that stretch coming last time out at the hands of Elismar Lima (unanimous decision) in WWFC 15 last September from Kiev Sports Palace in Kiev, Ukraine.

In the other corner, Wright has posted a record of 2-3 in his last five fights, losing in his most recent appearance (first-round submission) to Brian Foster in MMAX MMA 9 on Aug. 15 in Poteau, OK.

The Tale of the Tape:

According to Tapology, Cliff Wright owns a 71-inch reach, with no such information accessible for Khasan Askhabov heading into this bout.

Prediction: Khasan Askhabov by unanimous decision.
