Many Illinois football fans have heard about the wide receivers the staff is recruiting. Some of them are shorter guys who have insane athleticism and speed. However, on the 2017 roster, there is quite the diversity of receiver types.

  1. Big-Time Plays

The Illini get Mike Dudek back, and his presence will most certainly help this core of players. He has the ability to make the big catch and explode for a big gain. Along with Dudek, Malik Turner has that special something. He can go up and catch balls over defenders as he showed against Michigan. It’ll be interesting to see what freshmen like Ricky Smalling and Carmoni Green bring to the roster.

2. Promising Youth

Speaking of Smalling and Green, the Illini have a nice core of young pieces at the receiver position. Smalling and Green are both listed at 6 ft. 1, and both of them will have their opportunities this season. Other freshman like Kendall Smith and Louis Dorsey (TE) may also get some chances to show their talents in 2017. I would still key in on Smalling and Green this season. Both of them are loaded with talent and both can help the Illini right away.

3. QB Dependent

Like most receiving groups, they must have a decent QB in order to be successful. It will be truly interesting to see how Chayce Crouch does getting these receivers the ball. If he isn’t on his game, it will be tough for these receivers to be as well. I personally believe Crouch will be serviceable, so I think this group of receivers will have a pretty solid year. I have a little bit more confidence in this group than, say, the offensive line.

4. NO INJURIES PLEASE

I think this goes without saying, but just in case.
