Rumors are swirling around the league saying that the New York Islanders are serious suitors for Matt Duchene from the Colorado Avalanche. Garth Snow has put an offer out there and now the ball is in Joe Sakic’s court.

A couple of proposed trades that Sakic can not refuse:

Trade #1:

Avalanche Receive: Travis Hamonic, Ryan Strome, Michael Dal Colle

Islanders Receive: Matt Duchene

Trade #2:

Avalanche Receive: Travis Hamonic, Josh Ho-Sang and 2017 1st round pick

Islanders Receive: Matt Duchene

Trade #3:

Avalanche Receive: Ryan Pulock, Brock Nelson, Ilya Sorokin

Islanders Receive: Matt Duchene

Trade #4:

Avalanche Receive: Travis Hamonic and Mathew Barzal

Islanders Receive: Matt Duchene

These trades work because Garth Snow would be meeting the demands of Joe Sakic. At what point do you say “enough of hoarding prospects and use them to get top players?” Garth is on the hot seat and needs to make a move. This would be a good start, but more moves are needed to make this team a serious threat to compete for the Stanley Cup.

It was said that Joe Sakic wants: Top 4 Defenseman, top Prospect, 1st Round Pick

If Duchene comes to the Islanders, he will take over as the second line center and relieve some of the pressure on Tavares. With Duchene being signed through 2018-2019, it is a huge trade that must be made.

Islanders fans live off the hype of there prospects, but when has one actually panned out?

This is a trade that must happen, and it must happen now. Tavares needs another superstar and he can only take the team so far. Duchene is that guy.

As we wait to see if Garth Snow can pull off this blockbuster of a trade, let us enjoy the days leading up to the trade deadline. There will be fans that say we gave up too much and some fans who will love the trade. You have to give to get.

  1. Trade 3 is a wild overpay. Islanders’ best defensive prospect, best sniper (not named Tavares), and best goalie prospect for only 2 years of Matt Duchene? Especially with the unknown of where Duchene wants to be as an UFA. No thank you. Hamonic, Dal Colle, and a pick (would love for it to be conditional based on signing Matt but he can’t be extended for another year). That should be enough.
