Keon Johnson Down to Two Teams as Decision Day Closes In

0

Keon Johnson is the top ranked player in the state of Tennessee according to 247 sports and has narrowed his decision down to two teams. Johnson is a two-time Division II-A Mr. Basketball winner and is set to announce his college decision on August 6.

Johnson is a 6’5” four star shooting guard out of Bell Buckle, TN and is rated as the 31 overall player in the 2020 class, according to 247Sports. Playing for Webb School, Johnson averaged 24.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists, while shooting 58.4 percent from beyond the arc.

In an interview with HoopSeen TV, Keon Johnson not only announced that Virginia was out of the top three, but he would be announcing his college decision on August 6. Virginia filled all of their open roster spots after Jabri Abdur-Rahim, a four-star small forward out of Blairstown, New Jersey, verbally committed to the Cavaliers on July 10.

Keon Johnson has been on Tennessee’s radar for years, has taken many unofficial visits to Knoxville. He took an official visit to Ohio State this summer, and an official visit to UT’s campus last October. Out of all the other schools, Johnson has visited Tennessee’s campus the most, which should leave Rick Barnes and his staff feeling optimistic.

In HoopSeen TV’s interview, Johnson stated that, “Distance doesn’t really play a factor to me,” when asked about how dealing with Tennessee being the main instate campus. Johnson when asked about what stood out about Tennessee, he said, “Coach Barnes is a great coach, he’s very hard on his guys, but he also loves his guys as well.”

Johnson who at 6 foot 5 inches, is incredible on the defensive end, and uses his intensity on defense to further push his offense. Johnson has a very unique skill set, allowing him to score in multiple ways. While Johnson is known to attack the basket, he is not afraid to shoot the three, or nail a pull-up jumper.

If Keon chooses to go to Tennessee, expect him only to get more and more intense on the defensive side, and his jumper to become smoother, as Coach Barnes is known to fix/improve jump shots. Keon has a very high ceiling and will be a game changer at which ever school he decides to attend.
