Developing Manchester United Transfers: Zlatan Out, Morata In

The "interesting" summer window is wide open. Alvaro Morata will replace Zlatan, and might United get him in a package deal?

On the last day of March, José Mourinho announced in a press conference that his summer transfer targets were set and submitted. We are now sixteen days beyond the Europa League Final in Sweden and Mourinho’s promise of an “interesting” transfer window is undeniable. Zlatan Ibrahimović’s departure from Manchester is not shocking news, but interesting nonetheless. On a team that lacked an offensive identity at times this season, Zlatan may have been the most consistent scoring threat. He led the team in goals with 28 in all comps.

While talk between Real Madrid and Man U has probably been more focused on goalkeeper David De Gea, a deal for another player is in the works in the Spanish capital. Alvaro Morata seems to be the man to fill the gap left by Ibra. Morata is a world-class forward that missed playing time this season behind an expectedly loaded Real Madrid front. With the World Cup approaching, Morata is likely looking for a stage to showcase his ability and audition for a role with the Spanish national team. The timing could not have been better for his former manager Mourinho. United need a dominating forward (as Ibrahimović was) that can stay healthy (as Ibrahimović couldn’t) and turn some of their 15 EPL draws into three points. Even better news is the possibility that Morata could bring along a friend or two…

Just know that you won’t ever see me favour Manchester City, Chelsea, or the Patriots. #BearDown #USMNT #USWNT #Rapids96 #MUFC #RollTide #Smashville
