We can all breathe now. It finally happened. The Huskers won a football game with Scott Frost as the head coach.
After dominating Minnesota for most of the game (there were some clear nerves in the third quarter), Nebraska got its first win in just under a calendar year. This week they get to unload on Bethune-Cookman, in what was originally a bye week.
Since the Akron game was cancelled, however, the Huskers added the Wildcats to their schedule.
How did the Huskers look last weekend?
Finally, good enough. Adrian Martinez had over 400 yards of offense to go with four touchdowns. Maurice Washington had over 100 rushing yards and a touchdown. Devine Ozigbo had 152 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Stanley Morgan Jr finally had a big game with ten catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
You know it must be a good day with J.D. Spielman was the FIFTH-best offensive player.
They were scoring and moving the ball at will, with 659 yards of total offense. Heck, they even ran two variations of the statue of liberty.
Defensively, the Blackshirts were solid. Lamar Jackson once again looked good only two weeks after his benching. Eric Lee had a big hustle play on a return that ended up leading to the Dedrick Young interception. Besides the quick run of 22 points, the defense held up pretty solid.
Big numbers: The Huskers converted on eight of their 12 third downs (against 5-14 by the Gophers) and only had six penalties for 43 yards (against eight for 80). Need to win those two battles more often.
How did the Wildcats look last week?
With a big loss to North Carolina A&T last week, Bethune-Cookman fell to 4-4 on the season. But, as coach Frost said, that’s a better record than the Huskers, so we can’t take them lightly. Remember the McNeese State game? Yeah, unfortunately, me too. Nebraska has an all-time 83-percent win percentage vs non-FBS teams, so this should be favorable for the Huskers.
What does Vegas say?
Vegas doesn’t say anything about FBS vs. FCS matchups, so nothing. ESPN’s FPI Index gives the Huskers a 98.3-percent chance of winning, but you never know. I don’t think coach Frost will take them lightly. Imagine the media circus if he did. Huskers roll.
Prediction: Huskers 66, Wildcats 20
