10 rec, 232 yds, 3 TD

Sterling Shepard’s absence created a gaping hole in Oklahoma’s offense. Many expected Westbrook to fill this hole, both in production and as a leader. However, Westbrook’s 2016 season got off to a very shaky start. So much for that. Westbrook exploded this week, hauling in 10 catches for 232 yards and 3 TD’s. His production is reaching unheard of levels, and he has finally stepped up as a real leader for the WR crops. Many expected Westbrook to be a consistent contributor for Oklahoma’s offense. Instead, he’s turning into a star.

Oklahoma Position Group Ratings

The OL appears to have finally put everything together for the Sooners. Oklahoma’s rushing attack was dominant, and Mayfield was sacked 0 times.

Mark Andrews’ day got off to an awful start, as he dropped several passes. However, a few big gains redeemed his performance.

9/10. Perine’s monster day was a big factor in this victory fro Oklahoma. Joe Mixon added some, but this was Perine’s game.

Mayfield had a fantastic day. He gained 390 yds through the air, and 20 on the ground. He had one bad pick, but the other wasn’t his fault. Mayfield appears to have truly caught his stride.

Oklahoma’s WR has been a huge weak point in the first three weeks. They stepped up to the challenge this week, playing extremely well.

Buchele was constantly under pressure; however, Texas’ ground attack was able to run free for most of the game.

Texas’.offense had a big day. However, Oklahoma’s defense performed admirably given the large number of injuries that they played through.

For the most part, Oklahoma’s secondary was fantastic. A few big plays nearly spoiled their performance, but the secondary played well.

Austin Seibert was 1/2 on the day, and Mixon muffed  a pair of punts. Pretty terrible day for the Special Teams.

COACHING: 5/10.

The play-calling in this game was tremendous, but the clock management was very sub-par.

Earlier in the week, we stated that the team that created the most turnovers would win this game. We were wrong. Texas created 4 turnovers this game, yet only scored 3 points off of them. Oklahoma however, created 2 turnovers that turned into 14 points. The Longhorns gave up 672 yards of total offense, ranking 5th in school history for most yards allowed in a single game. When Charlie Strong took over the defense this week, Texas fans expected change. Instead, they got more of the same song and dance. The Longhorns continued to let the Baker Mayfield to DeDe Westbrook narrative thrive. They also let Samaje Perine run for over 200 yards. This defense is broken in one too many ways, and not even Charlie Strong can fix it. This game looked like it would be a low-scoring game in the first half, but both offenses came out firing in the third quarter. It started with a Shane Buechele bomb to Devin Duvernay for the score. Then Baker Mayfield would find DeDe Westbrook once again to regain the lead. After that, Oklahoma began to pull away. With a little over a minute to go, it was all or nothing for the Texas defense. With Baker Mayfield moving to his right, he was hit by two Texas defenders. The ball came free. At first, the referee crew signaled that Texas had recovered it. Texas had life. Moments later, the crew reversed their call and gave the ball back to Oklahoma. The play was not reviewed. This allowed Oklahoma to get the game clock down to 20 seconds, which diminished any chance Texas had. If there is anything we learned from this game, it’s that Texas and Oklahoma are both extremely average teams. Although Texas continuously shot themselves in the foot, Oklahoma took advantage of the opportunities they were given. The Sooners were the more prepared and better coached team on Saturday, and will travel back to Norman with the Golden Hat.

Texas Position Group Ratings

Probably the worst game this OL has had. Did not open up any holes for Foreman, and did not protect Buechele well. Still not as poor as the defense.

Not a factor here, per usual.

D’onta Foreman had a heck of a game in what was an atrocious performance by the offensive line. All of the big runs he had were pure heart.

Shane Buechele finally found the deep ball touch once again. However, he made some freshmen mistakes.

Good game by this corps. Devin Duvernay finally showed what he can do with his speed.

With Charlie Strong at the helm, the DL produced absolutely no pressure on Baker Mayfield. There was 1 sack on one of the last plays of the game.

Samaje Perine ran for over 200 yards. That cannot happen.

DeDe Westbrook burned the Texas secondary on several occassions. Again, this group just looks lost out there.

Michael Dickson had a decent game, averaging 45 yards per punt. Trent Domingue did his job as well. No blocked kicks.

Charlie Strong was just out-coached this game. Sterlin Gilbert did not have a good day of play-calling. The calls were predictable and the Sooners knew what was coming. Overall poor game from the coaching staff.

  1. The defense was horrendous and must’ve forgotten how to cover a reciever. Foreman looked great with added load of Warren being out. Charlie needs defense to help get this team back on the right track
