On Nov. 15, the list of combat sports promotions to stream its events live on UFC Fight Pass grew by one as Legacy Fighting Alliance presented LFA 78, followed one week later by LFA 79.
If you missed either or both of these events, they’re currently accessible for on-demand viewing on the subscription-based streaming platform.
I watched LFA 78 three weeks ago and was thoroughly impressed by what I saw on the professional portion of the card.
For my money, the best fight of the night was between JP Buys and Cristian Rodriguez, Jr. in the Bantamweight division.
The most brutal fight of the night in LFA 78 came in the Bantamweight co-main event between Jose Johnson and Rafael Costa.
As I wrote this article, I re-watched both fights and I noticed a common theme in the two contests mentioned above:
Both fights were clinically dominated by the winner, resulting in quick stoppages.
Neither fight lasted two minutes.
In the Buys vs. Rodriguez fight, JP Buys immediately attempted and scored a takedown against Cristian Rodriguez.
After attempting a submission, Buys transitioned to the back mount, enabling him to land ground and pound strikes.
With only one minute and 13 seconds having elapsed from the first-round clock, the referee halted the fight and JP Buys was declared its winner by technical knockout.
As for the Jose Johnson vs. Rafael Costa fight, here’s how it went down:
After some showboating by Johnson, he scored a takedown and attempted to submit Costa, but he worked his way out of the attempt and was able to stand up.
As the fight’s second minute reached its end, Johnson was on the receiving end of a single-leg takedown attempt by Costa.
Before he could land the takedown, Jose Johnson landed a vicious elbow strike to his opponent, rendering him unconscious.
Thankfully, Rafael Costa was able to stand up moments later.
The Johnson/ Costa fight serves as another reminder that mixed martial arts can be a dangerous sport.
All in all, LFA makes a great addition to UFC Fight Pass and it’s another reminder to subscribe to the service if you haven’t already.
In upcoming LFA shows, you might see a future UFC champion at work.
Mallory Martin, a Strawweight competitor who previously fought in the LFA before moving to women’s MMA promotion INVICTA Fighting Championships, made her UFC debut on Dec. 7 in the UFC on ESPN 7 card in Washington, DC against Virna Jandiroba.
