As an unprecedented NBA offseason draws near, BetOnline has begun releasing odds for where the top free agents will land. In a weak Free Agent class, Toronto Raptors Guard Fred VanVleet is the biggest domino to drop in the market.

VanVleet’s decision isn’t a franchise altering choice by any means, but it could be telling as we look ahead to 2021 free agent class

Will Fred VanVleet re-sign with the Toronto Raptors

Yes -155
No +115

In a weak 2020 NBA Free Agency class, Fred VanVleet may end up being the biggest name on the market. With the departure of Kawhi Leonard ahead of last season VanVleet took on a larger role for the Raptors. He embraced the extra responsibility en route to his best season as a pro. With a career year in his rear view VanVleet is looking to get paid in free agency.

VanVleet hasn’t been shy about his desire to get what he feels is his proper value in contract negotiations. While the Raptors would love to have him back, it’s no sure thing for a multitude of reasons

Reason number 1 being that there are two teams in need of a Starting Point Guard that will be looking to dole out serious cash to obtain one. The New York Knicks (+225) and Detroit Pistons (+300) both have a glaring hole at Point Guard. Both teams will be willing to spend to bring VanVleet into their locker room.

The second factor working against a return to Toronto is the Raptors’ aspirations for Giannis in 2021. It is no secret that the Toronto front office’s belief that they can lure the Greek Freak to Toronto. The growing Greek demographic in the city seems to be a major factor for Giannis. Not to mention that his relationship with Masai Ujiri puts the team at the front of the line next summer.

The Raptors’ desire to keep cap flexibility for Antetokounmpo casts doubts about whether they’ll pony up the cash needed to keep VanVleet in town.

I lean No +155 here.
