As we inch closer to the start of the FIBA World Cup for 2019, many players who are participating are gearing up for the first round. This includes Orlando Magic players who are representing their home team, from their respective country.
Magic players that will be participating this year includes: Evan Fournier of Team France; Nikola Vucevic of Team Montenegro; Khem Birch of Team Canada; and newly acquired player, Al-Farouq Aminu of Team Nigeria.
Recently, two teams that duked it out were, Team France and Team Montenegro. What made this game significant would be the fact that both teams were playing effectively, allowing their players to play to their strengths.
While France may have won this game in the end, it has been noted that the team has struggled during the game; not to mention the fact, that Team Montenegro played well throughout the game, even passing the ball to allow Vucevic to score, similar to how he does when playing for the Magic in the regular season.
Some areas that could be addressed in order for Team France to make it to the FIBA finals, would be to have more consistency. While the team did get a boost from Fournier and from its bench players, those that are starting need to play in ways that would be most effective.
We’re still a bit away from the first few games of the FIBA World Cup, and while Team USA may be the favorites, we shouldn’t count on the US on bringing home the gold just yet, because there are many other contenders looking to do the same.
