Juventus vs Tottenham

Both teams come into this matchup having a tough opponent to play just two days before. Both Spurs vs Arsenal and Juve at Fiorentina should yield a competitive game that is assured to take a toll on some starters. Because of Juve’s amazing defensive scheme and lineup, Tottenham will struggle to score even though Harry Kane has been on a hot streak. Also, because Juve’s prior matchup with Fiorentina is on Friday instead of Saturday like Tottenham, the extra day will prove crucial. That extra day of rest for the home matchup and the depth of their squad will prove important to Juve’s success in this matchup.

Result: Juventus win 3-2 on aggregate

FC Basel vs Manchester City

Manchester City have been absolutely on fire this year and it doesn’t look as if it’s coming to an end soon. Although Basel had a great showing in the group stage by splitting games with both Manchester United and CSKA Moskva, the Swiss team just simply does not have enough firepower to get past Guardiola’s men.

Result: Manchester City win 4-1 on aggregate

FC Porto vs Liverpool

FC Porto are this season’s Portuguese leaders, but face their toughest test of the year when they face Liverpool next week. Liverpool have been a streaky team this year having a couple big wins with a couple shocking losses. Liverpool could struggle with finding their form and coming out their best side. Virgil Van Dijk has just joined the squad and they have performed terribly defensively since he’s begun playing. If Liverpool can put the pieces together and play as the team they can be, they can hand Porto a defeat, which they have not seen in league play this year. With only 10 goals conceded in league play, Porto’s defense is a force to be reckoned with and, although many people may have them as the underdog, they have defensive solidarity and could piece together a result or two and advance to the next stage.

Result: 2-2 draw on aggregate with Liverpool advancing on away goals

Bayern vs Beşiktaş

Beşiktaş has been a surprise team for the UCL this year, after finishing atop of their group, they have maintained sturdy play in the Turkish League and currently sit in 4th in their domestic league. Bayern, on the other hand, have been absolutely demolishing their Bundesliga competition and are averaging nearly 2.5 goals per game. The German giants are known for having a great team and putting together great results in the UCL. The Germans didn’t finish first in their group stage, but they lost out only by goal differential to PSG. This one is going to be a route as Bayern has looked nothing but dominant behind Bundesliga scoring leader Robert Lewandowski.

Result: Bayern win 5-0 on aggregate

Chelsea vs Barcelona

This matchup certainly looks like one of the best matchups of the round by name, but Antonio Conte and Chelsea are looking lost having conceded 7 goals in their last 2 games, with only one offensive goal to show for it. On the other side of the coin, Barcelona are dominating the La Liga with 0 losses and only 11 goals conceded. Chelsea has 2 home games to reconnect before they face Barcelona at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea also has a daunting schedule in between the two legs, having to play both Manchester United and Manchester City away in their domestic league. Although Barcelona has failed to progress past Chelsea in any UCL knockout round in the Messi era, this looks like it could be the first. If Chelsea don’t find things together soon, the matchup could get really ugly for the men from West London.

Result: Barcelona win 4-2 on aggregate

Sevilla vs Manchester United

Sevilla have had a very inconsistent season. The results that they are getting are very sporadic and they have had trouble recently. They currently sit in 6th in La Liga and have a negative goal differential. Manchester United have a new signee in Alexis Sanchez and the best defense in the Premier League. Although they have a difficult schedule in between the two fixtures, facing Liverpool and Chelsea, this game shouldn’t be too hard for an up-and-down Manchester United team.

Result: Manchester United advance 4-2 on aggregate

Roma vs Shakhtar Donetsk

After finishing atop of their group of death, Roma have slid out of the top 4 in Italy and are looking for anything to claw after. Roma have a good balance of offense and defense and manage to get by in their games closely. Their last 12 games have finished within one goal of each other. Shakhtar, on the other hand, lead the Ukrainian league in points and are led by their amazing front line which includes Ferreyra. Although the Ukrainian team has had some great showings and is led with firepower, Roma have too good of an overall unit and will prevail.

Result: Roma advances 5-3 on aggregate

PSG vs Real Madrid

Being the highest stakes matchup of the draw, this matchup has two of the favorites to raise the trophy at the end of the campaign. PSG feature the world’s greatest offense with Neymar, Mbappe, and Cavani. Pair this offensive trio with the explosiveness and firepower of Ronaldo, Benzema, and Bale, and this will provide for a truly awesome matchup. Along with high firepower up top, these two clubs field some of the best midfield units, and back lines that the world can see. There are 7 players featured on the FIFPro world XI, which is more than any other two teams in the world. This matchup will hold the world’s most exciting players and I expect no less from the results. This matchup will easily be the best among them all and will be enthralling all the way through.

Result: PSG wins 4-3 on aggregate.

Brenner Keaton I watch sports because I suck at playing them. Had my heart broken by my first love, Chelsea soccer. It sucks being me because all of my teams lose: Chelsea, LSU, Chargers, and Pelicans. LSU fan by chance and by choice. If there’s anything I’ve learned from sports, it’s that: 1) If it’s just a game, you’re just a game 2) 2-0 is the worst lead to have in soccer 3) Anything worth doing is worth overdoing 4) 2nd is the first loser
