OVER/UNDER  45

KEY PLAYER: Melvin Gordon

Gordon had a slow start Week 1 against the top-rated Broncos defense, only getting 54 yards on 18 carries. He will now try to improve his stat line against Miami, who had the third worst rushing defense in 2016. If the same rushing defense carries into this season, expect a big day on the ground for Gordon, and make sure to start him in your fantasy league.

KEY PLAYER: Jay Ajayi

Jay Ajayi broke out as a star last year, and was probably a first or second round pick in your fantasy league this year. Ajayi does best when his O-Line is healthy, and what better time than the Dolphins first game. The Dolphins will be able to establish the pass against LA, but if they can also establish consistent running with Ajayi, the Fins will win this game.

GAME PREVIEW AND ANALYSIS

The Dolphins will be playing their first game this season, after missing out in Week 1 action due to Hurricane Irma. They arrive fresh in Los Angeles, for the Chargers’ first game in LA since December 18, 1960. This will be the first time we’ll see Jay Cutler in a Miami Dolphins uniform, against a Chargers secondary that recorded 18 interceptions last season. This game will be a battle of the running backs, as the key to this game will be the team who can break through the defensive line and run the ball. Both the Dolphins and Chargers have strong defensive lines and emerging running backs. Phillip Rivers will have a big day against the Dolphins depleted linebacking corps and secondary. He’ll hope to connect with Antonio Gates, while Jay Cutler will try to establish himself with DeVante Parker and Jarvis Landry. An underlying factor in this game is the crowd. This will be a crowd of less than 30,000 fans, which is a very unusual sight in the NFL. It will definitely be a weird atmosphere, as the Chargers will not move into their permanent home until 2020. Although I predicted a Dolphins victory in this weeks Armchair Pick ‘Em, I changed my mind on The Splash Zone this week, and believe the Chargers will pull out victorious 28-24.

Born and raised in South Florida, I’m a lifelong Dolphins, Marlins, Heat, and Panthers fan. While my Patriot-fan friends have seen 5 Super Bowl victories since 2000, I’ve seen my Fins in the playoffs only three times, even though I’ve predicted them as a playoff team nearly every season (I blame Brady). I think that NFL players should be allowed to celebrate anyway they want, and it’s all the Miami Hurricanes’ fault that players can’t celebrate the way they want.
