The Gamecocks wrapped up the 2018 recruiting cycle on Wednesday with National Signing Day. South Carolina found themselves ranked in the top 20 by the major recruiting services and addressed major needs across the board.
We take a look at the top three players who should have an immediate impact for the Gamecocks in the fall of 2018:
DT Rick Sandidge
The big defensive tackle out of Concord, N.C. was the final signee of the Gamecocks’ 2018 class and may also be the most important. Sandidge was one of the highest regarded defensive lineman in the country and will have a chance to play early and often in the fall. He brings size and athleticism to a defensive front that loses three of its top four contributors from a year ago. Look for Sandidge to have a solid freshman campaign and possibly even be starting by mid-season.
DB Jaycee Horn
The once Tennessee commitment flipped to the Gamecocks after the Volunteers went through a coaching chance following the 2017 season. The cornerback from Alpharetta, Ga. fills an immediate need for South Carolina. Will Muschamp made it clear in his post-signing day press conference that the Gamecocks’ main area of concern is in the secondary. With the departures of Chris Lammons and Jamarcus King, look for Horn to be in the mix early and often to get serious playing time at cornerback. I see Horn playing in a Jamyest Williams-type role this fall, who was thrust into immediate playing time and earned Freshman All-SEC Honors.
WR Josh Vann
The 4-star wide receiver out of Tucker, Ga. rounds out our list instant impact signees. Vann is a freakish athlete whose hands separate him from most receivers in this class. He made some absolute circus catches his senior year of high school, and I expect him to get involved early in the wide receiver rotation. Look for Vann to play a Shi Smith-type role this fall and become a weapon for quarterback Jake Bentley.
