The Boston College men’s basketball season has been one of short streaks thus far, and the latest two-game losing run has landed it with an even record of 13-13 after losing this week against NC State and Clemson. The Eagles find themselves in 10th place in the ACC, and with the plethora of national contenders in the conference, it is highly unlikely that BC will be able to make any noise in the conference tournament.
The loss to NC State ended in a final score of 89-80 and saw well-rounded performances from the starters and Jairus Hamilton off the bench, but not a single other reserve scored in the contest, and they contributed only three rebounds and one assist in total.
This has been the largest problem this season for the Eagles, as there haven’t been many great displays from the bench in any game this season. BC had five players in double-figure scoring with Nik Popovic leading the way for the Eagles with 18 points, but he fouled out after only 29 minutes of game time. The real killer for BC was the 18 turnovers, which is a recipe for disaster against any strong conference opponent.

The defeat at Clemson, finishing by a final of 76-66, was a disappointing one, seeing as the Eagles played the Tigers extremely close, but a 10-0 run by Clemson with less than five minutes left to play effectively ended the game.
Jordan Chatman did not play in the game and he was replaced by Jairus Hamilton in the starting lineup, who gave an extremely strong performance by scoring 17 points and adding six rebounds. Ky Bowman joined Jairus as the leading scorer for BC, dropping 17 of his own on only 6-of-21 shooting.
One of the bug-a-boos the Eagles have had this season has been free throw shooting, where they rank 13th in the ACC at only 69.6 percent on the year. On the day the team shot par, making 9 of their 13 free throw attempts.
It’s a bit of a cliche to say, but small things like free throws can be a key factor, especially in such a close game.
